I started using cloth diapers with my third child because it saves money, is better for baby's skin and keeps trash out of the landfills. Trying out the different kinds of cloth available is a good idea because it helps you learn what works best for your family.  My diaper stash consists mostly of prefolds, covers, fitteds and pockets.  I love the simplicity of prefolds, and was on the lookout to try out flats. I wanted something with organic materials and luckily, a local WAHM, Christina Edwards of Fruit of the Womb, sent me a Organic Bamboo Preflat/prefold diaper for reviewing purposes.
Christina started sewing diapers for her children after using cloth diapers for ten years. She wanted to make something that would contain all the diaper blowouts she was experiencing.   She designed a cover pattern that worked just right.  Then, everyone started asking her where she got her diapers from and she was even approached to sell the diapers she made in an online store!  Fruit of the Womb was born and gave her a way to support her family and sewing addiction.  Fruit of the Womb is located in Iowa City, Iowa.

What is a flat?  That's what you may be wondering right now.  Well the best way to explain a flat is one layer of material (usually cotton) which can be folded several ways to custom shape your baby.
So what is a preflat then? It's basically a combination of a prefold and a flat. They're shaped like a prefold, and are double layered throughout the entire diaper, leaving less bulk in the middle. Preflats are great because you can use it like a flat, use it like a prefold, and/or like an insert or booster for a pocket or cover.
Here is what it looks like, straight out of the package. It measures 16x19.
This is what it looks like next to a heavily used Bummis Infant prefold (11x16).
The next photo is after prepping (2 washes with the other diapers). The preflat shrunk to 16x17. It is more square shaped, as you can see.
Don't be intimidated, putting it on baby is really easy! Lay it out flat, then tuck in one end like shown below.
Put the baby in, tuck the front up and hook a Snappi on. You're done!  If you want to make it leakproof, you can just put a cover on and you don't even need to use a Snappi in that case. My daughter is 14 months and about 25 pounds and fits perfectly with even a couple inches she can grow into. I personally prefer folding the preflat into a trifold and laying it in the cover or putting it in the pocket.
There are many other folds you can do...  Check out this link to see 8 Ways to Fold a Cloth Diaper: http://www.wikihow.com/Fold-a-Cloth-Diaper
Fruit of the Womb makes organic flats, preflats, organic bamboo and organic hybrid fitteds, AIO's (all in one), AI2's (all in two), pocket diapers, inserts, covers, wool soakers (shorties), wool longies, wool legwarmers, burp cloths and keychain diapers.  You can also place a custom order for something if you don't see it available.
I love the preflats from Fruit of the Womb! They're so soft and smooth, I can tell they'll hold up for years.  I would much rather use these than prefolds any day!  They wash and dry easily.  Spray or knock off solids into toilet. I use Tide Original HE (recently switched to Tide and it's so much better!) filled to the first line in the scooper. I wash about 15-20 diapers at a time, which happens to be about every other day. My cycle is cold soak, warm wash and cold rinse. I dry the non-PUL fabrics on a normal drying cycle.

What is my favorite thing about Fruit of the Womb Organic Bamboo Preflats? They're multifunctional.  They can replace prefolds and inserts entirely!
Is there anything I'd change about it?  I think for chunkier babes or for older children that are still in diapers, you'd have more difficulties using it in the way I illustrated above since this is the largest size currently available.  However, you still can fold it up and place in a cover or stuff into a pocket.
I give the Organic Bamboo Preflat by Fruit of the Womb a 10/10!
