Have you ever felt like you don't make enough milk? This is something so many moms worry about. It's a topic discussed frequently in breastfeeding support groups. I wrote a post bringing up some of the concerns I've heard related to milk production with helpful links that provide evidence based answers here- http://latchedonmom.blogspot.com/2013/04/do-i-make-enough-milk-for-baby.html
Now, there are definitely times where a mother may experience a decrease in milk output, stress, hormones and dehydration are the most likely reasons you may experience this. Moms who have little ones who cannot or will not nurse and rely on a pump, or return to work and have to pump also can face a struggle with milk production. I have never had good luck getting enough milk from exclusively pumping. I've pumped 8 times a day, 30 minutes or more per session and still couldn't cut it. I'd get less than 30 ounces when my baby (with her slow flow, paced feedings) required to eat 5-10 more ounces daily.
Luckily we have many choices available that can improve your milk making efforts! One of the most common galactagogue choices you'll hear about is lactation cookies. I've always wanted to try making some but never wanted to buy all the supplies and let things go to waste. I was so happy when I came across the Leaky Lady Lactation Cookies Facebook page! I'm even more happy to provide a review of this WAHM business!
Jessica is the proprietor of Leaky Lady Lactation Cookies, and has a strong desire to help mothers meet their breastfeeding goals. Her business is based in Charleston, South Carolina and many locals are loyal customers, but she ships freshly baked lactation cookies to anyone who needs them in the United States. She also will sell the dough if cooking them yourself is more your thing! All cooking instructions are included.
Every month she offers a special monthly flavor. Pumpkin is the flavor of the month for October! The other available cookies are S'mores, Oatmeal Raisin, White Chocolate Cranberry, and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip. Each order gives you one dozen cookies.

Leaky Lady Lactation Cookies recommends that you consume 4 cookies on days 1 & 2, on days 3 & 4 to eat 2 cookies, and one cookie a day thereon. You can freeze cookies for up to 3 months if needed so anytime you can get a helpful lactation boost.
I received the S'mores lactation cookies to try. Every single cookie that traveled from South Carolina all the way to Iowa remained intact, moist, smelled and looked delicious.
So how did they taste, you wonder? They were scrumptious! I wanted to amp up my lactation cookie experience so I ate 6 in 24 hours. Ok, I'll be honest, maybe they were just so yummy that I couldn't help myself but to eat a couple more than recommended! The last half dozen was gone on the second day... and the best part is I finally got a treat I didn't have to share! The melted marshmallow and extra chocolate chips on these S'mores lactation cookies made the perfect companion with a cup of hot cocoa!
Three days later, I noticed a big increase! I got 2 more ounces total than usual. I was telling my hubby all day how full I felt and even pumped an extra session. On the 4th and 5th day I still felt full, and still saw an increase! Today is the 6th day after eating Leaky Lady Lactation Cookies, I don't feel as full and today I haven't had any increase in milk output but I imagine had I continued eating a cookie or two per day I probably would have seen more of an increase.
I loved these cookies, I give them a 10/10! and I think you will too! LIKE the Leaky Lady Lactation Cookies Facebook page today and look at all the yumminess!

ReplyDeleteI'm seriously ordering the s'mores cookies ASAP! I have a 7 week old and I'm in the hospital right now with gallbladder issues, having to pump and dump because of the meds. I will need a boost when I can I start eating again!!!
ReplyDeletePlease take a moment to personally evaluate the risks associated with the medications prescribed to you, as many times when doctors just aren't sure they say to pump and dump. This is not always needed! Here's the best places to check-
