Taking care of yourself before conception, during pregnancy and while lactating is crucial to the well-being of your children. Women of child-bearing age have unique nutritional needs, therefore a multivitamin is often suggested to give your body the extra nourishment that sometimes diet cannot provide alone.
Garden of Life is a company that values your needs and their RAW Prenatal vitamins are high-quality made from whole, raw foods. There are no synthetic binders, fillers, artificial flavors,
sweeteners, colors or additives. These vitamins contain 23 fruits and vegetables, are vegetarian, dairy free, gluten free and GMO-free.
After researching for a supplement that does not contain folic acid, but rather folate, I came across this company. You can read my post Folic Acid vs. Folate discussing the information I've found.
I desired a prenatal vitamin that would not irritate my stomach, as the ones I had taken before made my morning sickness worse. I also loved that this company strives to offer customers cutting edge products based on scientific advances in producing natural food products and dietary supplements. They use a unique method producing RAW Food—Created Nutrients™, taking specific, isolated components of food containing the most pure form of vitamin and creates a regrowth phase of this process to continually multiply this effect and collect all the nutrients. Their slogan is, "Everything you want in a true raw whole food multi and nothing you don’t want!" I felt that this was a great fit for me.
Garden of Life RAW Prenatal are designed to support the immune system of mother and growing child and healthy digestion with probiotics, ginger, vitamin D and zinc. These vitamins support heart and blood health with iron, vitamins C, E and B-Complex plus folate for healthy neural tube development. RAW Prenatal has vitamins A, C, iron and copper too, for healthy skin and nails.
The capsules are large, but I feel that they are not hard to swallow. They do not taste bad. The directions say to take one capsule three times a day. It's easy to take along with breakfast, lunch and dinner, but you do not have to take it with food. If you prefer, you can open the capsule and empty the contents into water or juice. There are a total of 90 capsules in each bottle. If you follow the schedule at 3 a day, you'd expect to go through an entire bottle every month. The bottle is glass and needs to be stored in a cool, dry place.
The American Pregnancy Association suggests to take one multivitamin that includes a variety of needed nutrients in one dose. They go on to say, "Vitamins and minerals are essential to healthy development of your baby, as well as your own physical health." It is also recommended to seek out the advice of your healthcare provider before beginning a supplement. Click HERE to read more from the APA.
What's my favorite thing about RAW Prenatal?
I had a very successful, healthy pregnancy. I have continued using the RAW Prenatal vitamins while nursing. I feel that this supplement has helped get me through my nutritional expectations while pregnant and nursing. It has all the components I was looking for in a prenatal vitamin.
Is there anything I'd change about it?
No, this product is great!
I give Garden of Life RAW Prenatal a 10/10.
