Where is your next family vacation going to be? Are you planning a family trip to Chicago?
I think that if I had known about MomAboard, our last trip to The Windy City could have been much easier.
I think that if I had known about MomAboard, our last trip to The Windy City could have been much easier.
This past spring my family took an impromptu road trip from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Chicago, Illinois. I had won tickets to MommyCon, and didn't want to miss the opportunity to go, but planning a trip last minute, while pregnant with 3 kids was honestly a very nerve-rattling experience. I did not know hardly anything about Chicago besides the memories of the places I visited on my own childhood vacations. Trying to figure out the trip itinerary was overwhelming.
We wanted to see everything, we drove all around the town and checked out all the sights, Wrigley Field, Lincoln Park Zoo, Adler Planetarium, Soldier Field, drove across the famous Chicago River that they color green for St. Patrick's Day, had a real deep dish pizza and visited LegoLand. I know all this is pretty great for a last-minute road trip, but I feel like I missed out on so much. It would have been so nice to have someone on board to assist our family have the perfect trip.
MomAboard has 60 Mombassadors around the world. Their job is to tailor the trip to fit your needs. The Mombassador is an insider and knows all the secrets of the place you plan to take a trip to. They will give you the best resources for hotels/accomodations, restaurants, transportation, events, activities and more! Whether you're traveling by car, plane or train they are capable of providing the most up-to-date trip planning services.
I particularly am fond of MomAboard's Airport Nursing Room Locator, so breastfeeding and pumping moms can easily locate a private area to express milk or nurse their baby if they so choose! Chicago's O'Hare International Airport is listed with the spots to go, check it out!
Chicago's Mombassador is Kirsten Maxwell. She is a mom to three children and an active blogger at Kids Are a Trip. If you are planning a trip to Chicago, she'd love to help you! I wanted to share the interview I had with Kirsten.
When did you first hear of Momaboard? How did you come across it?
Mombassador found me. Kaamna reached out to me as we were both working for a company called TravelingMom. She told me about the company and I thought it sounded like a good fit.
What influenced you to become an Mombassador?
I have planned itineraries for my family, friends, and strangers for as long as I can remember. Planning itineraries for the city I live in seemed like a natural fit. I’m always asked for tips on what to see and do all over the world. We travel a lot so I have a lot of advice to share. I know I want advice for destinations we visit, so it’s a natural fit that I share information for my home town.
What's your favorite thing about being a Mombassador?
I love being a Mombassador because it gives me an excuse to explore new restaurants and attractions in the city I wouldn’t necessarily seek out. It also challenges me to find activities to please families of all shapes and sizes.
What are some of your family's favorite sights/attractions and restaurants in Chicago that you'd highly recommend as a Mombassador?
Our kids love the Museum of Science and Industry and we recommend it to everyone that visits the city. Another hidden gem is the Chicago History Museum. It’s not on every tourist’s radar, but it’s a great way to learn about the history of the city. One of the best places for kids to explore is Maggie Daley Park. It is hands down the best public playground I have ever seen.
As far as restaurants, our kids like Grand Luxe Cafe on Michigan Avenue because they like people watching out the big windows. They also love Hash House A Go Go for their amazing breakfasts, Garrett Popcorn, and Glazed and Infused doughnuts. Yep, we have a major problem with sweets in our house.
Are there any common challenges you hear from families that come to you for help planning their time in Chicago?
I think one of the most difficult things for people to realize is that they should not rent a car. Chicago is not made for driving unless you’re staying in the suburbs. If you plan to stay downtown and play tourist, use public transportation or your feet. It’s the best way to get around.
What advice would you give for anyone planning a trip to Chicago?
Check the weather before you come and pack accordingly.
Thank you so much to Kirsten for letting us get to know a little more about you!
