Bath time is a fun time- baby gets to soak in nice warm water with mom or dad making over them, getting to play with special bath toys and of course, bubbles. When they're finished, they're cocooned in a soft warm towel and snuggled in your arms. This is such a great way to bond with your baby!
Several years back, a friend let me know about the potentially harmful chemicals in a popular name brand baby bath soap, which concerned me. I never thought about chemicals during bath time with my baby before. It really opened my eyes to look into every element I introduce to my child. We've been through several changes in our family this year, removing toxins and making more ecologically friendly decisions. To learn more about our experience, visit the Make it Green in 2015 campaign page.
In textiles, brominated flame retardants (BFR's) are often added to reduce flammability. These chemicals have been linked to reproductive problems (1), birth defects, cancer (2) and have little proof backing up that they actually provide any benefit in a fire. "80 percent of the baby items tested were found to contain flame retardant chemicals" (3) including baby tubs, bassinets, car seats, towels and clothing. After a bath, when skin is the most porous, the effects that this chemical can have on your little one are frightening. Using chemical-free, organic towels and clothing can significantly reduce exposure to BFR's and help your family live a healthier, greener way.
I decided my family definitely needs better, but I only came up with a handful of manufacturers when I searched for organic bamboo baby towels. So you can imagine my excitement when I found Little Lily Bamboo, ran by Jade Steckly, a WAHM based out of Dawson Creek, Canada.
Here's a little introduction of Jade from Little Lily Bamboo, "I started my business 6 years ago. I had been looking for a business of some sort to start, but didn't think I could do anything. A friend expressed a need for good quality kids washcloths one day, and I saw an opportunity. After some research, I settled on using bamboo fabric and taught myself to sew over the next months. I quickly moved into towels and swaddling blankets, once I had sourced just the right fabric. My kids motivate and inspire me. I also have a few friends who love my products, and help brainstorm new ideas. I'm also addicted to online fabric shopping, lol!"

The Etsy store is impressive, to say the least. Not only can you tell how passionate she is about providing children with the most natural, comfortable and safe bath time products, she also wants these products to be personable to you. I just love the adorable, fashionable printed accents on the hooded towels!
The package comes beautifully wrapped with a card stating benefits of bamboo and all business information. These towels are made with an eco-friendly organic bamboo and organic cotton terry blend that has a slight stretch. Bamboo is antimicrobial and hypoallergenic, great next to a baby's sensitive skin. This fabric is UNBELIEVABLY plush, it's the most luxuriously soft fabric I think I've ever touched! Bamboo can hold up to 3X it's weight in liquid, making it super absorbent. Bamboo is also a sustainable product that biodegrades.
The edges are serged, but where the hood attaches, it is turned and topstitched. With a double layer of the organic bamboo/cotton blend, it's very warm and comfy. The inside of the hood is layered with one layer of organic bamboo, to help wick away moisture from baby's hair after a bath and the outside is a cotton knit pattern- I am reviewing the neutral stars, which is great whether you're expecting a boy or a girl! The Little Lily Organic Bath Set includes a baby sized towel that is 30x30 inches AND two serged 8x8 organic bamboo baby wipes.
My daughter is 26 months old and it still wraps around her! When baby #4 comes in May, I'll update with a pic of him/her in it then!
After drying off, it barely even feels wet! We hang it up and reuse it next bath time without worrying about germs accumulating since it's antimicrobial! Karebear loves this towel, she snuggles to it and I think every baby will feel like a million dollars wrapped in this after bath time!
What's my favorite thing about Little Lily Bamboo Organic Bath Set? The fact that the niche for organic bath towels is so small that right now it's easy to support a WAHM/small business is probably my most favorite. That's rare these days! However, we adore this towel so much so that everyone in the family now wants one!
Is there anything I'd change about this product? Not at all. It's perfect.
I give Little Lily Bamboo a 10/10!
